Sipping Through Bangkok: A Guide to the City’s Coffee Shop Culture

Updated: Dec 13, 2024

Bangkok is a city that truly has it all—a vibrant mix of rich history, mouthwatering cuisine, and breathtaking modern skyscrapers. The bustling energy is infectious, and every corner of the city feels alive with possibility. But with its endless activity, buzzing streets, and a never-ending stream of people, Bangkok can also feel overwhelming at times. It’s the kind of city that keeps you on your toes while offering endless opportunities to explore.

During the year I lived in Thailand, I visited Bangkok quite often and quickly discovered my favorite way to unwind from the city’s frenetic pace: coffee shops. Tucked away from the chaos, these little havens of calm became my sanctuaries. Bangkok's coffee shop scene is as diverse as the city itself, with each café offering something unique—from cozy, plant-filled spaces to sleek, minimalist designs.

There are endless options throughout the city, so choosing where to go can be a bit overwhelming. To make it easier for you, I've put together a curated list of my favorite coffee shops. Whether you’re a local, an expat, or just visiting, these spots are perfect for taking a breather while enjoying everything this incredible city has to offer.

List of my favorite coffee shops in Bangkok:

Taiban

Nestled near Hua Lamphong MRT station and Bangkok's iconic train station, Taiban Café is a hidden gem unlike any other I visited. Despite its central location, the coffee shop offers a serene and laid-back atmosphere, making it a peaceful retreat from the urban hustle.

What sets Taiban apart from other coffee shops is that aside from food and drinks, you can purchase a canvas (the price starts at 300 baht). Whether you're planning a cozy date, a fun outing with friends, or a relaxing solo adventure, this café provides the perfect setting to enjoy great company, delicious treats, and a splash of creativity.

Flâneur Tea

Just a short stroll from the Saint Louis BTS station, Flâneur Tea is a tranquil escape that feels like stepping into an indoor garden paradise. This coffee shop is surrounded by flowers and greenery making it a haven for nature lovers seeking a serene retreat in the heart of the city.

Flâneur Tea offers a menu that caters to every craving, from hearty meals to delightful sweets and refreshing drinks. Whether you're looking for a peaceful spot to unwind, a picturesque place to snap some photos, or a cozy corner to enjoy a delicious treat, Flâneur Tea provides an enchanting experience that’s as calming as it is beautiful.

The Artist House Bangkok

The Artist House Bangkok is one of my favorite coffee shops in Thailand. It's a centuries-old house located near the Khlong Bang Luang Floating Market. On the bottom floor, you will find a lot of local artwork available for purchase and, just like Taiban, you can purchase a canvas and/or beads to make bracelets and necklaces to unleash your creative side.

It's located a bit far out from the city but it is still located near the blue MRT line. Despite it being on the outskirts, I highly recommend visiting this place.

ENVIES Café

Chinatown is one of my favorite neighborhoods of Bangkok, with its local culture and history intact from the modernity of the rest of the city. However, it can get quite crowded and overwhelming. Just a short walk away, you will stumble upon ENVIES Café, a small yet quaint, small coffeeshop. It's the perfect place to escape the bustling Chinatown and the intense mid-day heat.

F.I.X.

F.I.X. is a chain coffee store with places all around Bangkok including popular spots like Ekkamai and Lumphini. The interior of the coffee shop is minimalistic, which I found to be very soothing. Unlike a lot of coffee shops, they offer a good variety of sandwiches and desserts. I highly recommend getting their iced green matcha!

COZI Café and Bar

One of the few cafés that I keep going back to, COZI Café and Bar is a hidden gem. It is located in a residential area of Sukhumvit making it the perfect escape from a busy day running around Bangkok. Their menu is very extensive and everything I have tried, I have really liked. Oh, and they are also pet-friendly!!

Bark Bangkok

Bark Bangkok is perfect for those looking for a Korean-style café shop. Owned by Koreans, you can expect to get served authentic Korean food. The interior design is minimalistic yet chic. I spent over an hour just journaling there. I highly recommend it!

I hope this list is of help to you when looking for an escape from the bustling streets of Bangkok or just want to explore the café scene.
